Developing future leaders through exposure, trust and autonomy.

Supply Chain Week Sydney 2026 | 20 August 2026 | ICC Sydney

What opportunities could help someone discover their potential before they step into a leadership role? At Supply Chain Week Sydney 2026, I joined the panel discussion “Building the supply chain workforce of the future”. Asked how to identify and develop future leaders before they are ready for the role, I returned to three connected ideas: exposure, development as a journey, and trust with autonomy. Explore the three short clips below, with transcripts and the reflections I shared afterwards on LinkedIn.

How do you identify and develop future leaders before they are ready for the role?

My starting point is to give people opportunities to learn through experience. Short-term assignments, exposure to different areas and chances to work with different people can reveal how someone adapts, brings others along and discovers what interests them. Potential needs room to emerge over time.
